Read the following passage and answer question Nos 1-7:
Respectfully but firmly, I disagree. Love is a great force in private life; it is indeed the greatest of all things; but love in public affairs does not work. It has been tried again and again: by the Christian civilization of the Middle Ages, and also by the French Revolution, a secular movement which reasserted(পুনর্ব্যক্ত) the Brotherhood of man. And it has always failed. The idea that nations should love one another, or that, business concerns or marketing boards should love one another, or that a man in Portugal should love a man in Peru of whom he has never heard – it is absurd, unreal, dangerous. It leads us into perilous and vague sentimentalism. ‘Love’ is what is needed’, we chant and then sit back and the world goes on as before. The fact is we can only love what we know personally. And we cannot know much. In public affairs, in the rebuilding of civilization, something much less dramatic and emotional is needed, namely, tolerance. Tolerance is a very dull virtue. It is boring. Unlike love, it has always had a bad press. It is negative. It merely means putting up with people, being able to stand things. No one has ever written an ode to tolerance, or raised a statue to her. Yet this is the quality which will be most needed after the war. This is the sound state of mind which we are earnestly looking for. This is the only force which will enable different races and classes and interests to settle down together to the work of reconstruction.
The world is very full of people-appallingly(আতঙ্কিত করার মত) full; it has never been so full before, and they are all tumbling over each other. Most of these people one doesn’t know and some of them one doesn’t like; doesn’t like the colour of their skins, say, or the shapes of their noses, or the way blow them or don’t blow them or the way they talk, or their smell or their clothes, or their fondness for Jazz or their dislike of Jazz, and so on. Well, what is one to do? There are two solutions. One of them is the Nazi solution. If you don’t like people, kill them, segregate them and then strut up and down proclaiming that you are the salt of the earth(শ্রেষ্ঠ, কৃতী, বরেণ্য নাগরিক). The other way is much less thrilling, but it is on the whole the way of democracies and I prefer it. If you don’t like people, put up with them as well as you can. Don’t try to love them: you can’t, you will only strain yourself. But try to tolerate them. On the basis of that tolerance, a civilized future may be built. Certainly I can see no other foundation for the post-war world.

বাংলা অনুবাদঃ আমাদের সাহিত্যকে আরও সুন্দর ও সমৃদ্ধ করতে , মানবিক উপলব্ধির কোমল বসন্ত বাতাস বর্তমান শীতল অবস্থায় কি একটু উত্তাপ আনতে পারবে? পারবে কি প্রাণ প্রাচুর্যেভরা সুন্দরের ফুল ফুটাতে? যদি আমরা এসব অনুধাবন করতে না পারি, তারমানে এই নয় যে আমাদের দেশের পরিবেশ কাব্য-অনুপযোগী। যদি আমরা পুরাতন দেশগুলোর সুবিধা থেকে বঞ্চিত হই, তাহলে আমাদের এই নতুন দেশকে অনেক ক্ষতিপূরণ দিতে হবে। আর তা শুধু, প্রকৃতি তার মহিমা প্রকাশে ও মানুষকে প্রেরণা যোগাতে যেভাবে তার অপার সৌন্দর্য্য আমাদের কাছে মেলে ধরেছে সেদিক থেকেই নয়, আমাদের অবাধ মুক্ত-চিন্তার স্বাধীনতা ও প্রশস্ত কর্ম পরিবেশের দিক থেকেও আমরা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হব। দেশে বিরাজমান প্রতিকূল পরিবেশ সত্ত্বেও কিছু বাস্তবিক কাব্য রচিত হয়েছে, যা ভবিষ্যৎ ঐকান্তিক ভালো জিনিসের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করবে ও এই আশার ভিত্তি রচনা করবে যে আমাদের জাতীয় কাব্যে সবসময় মন্দভাব থাকবে না।
কাব্যকলা, যা সত্যের মত, সে তাদের কাছেই তার সৌন্দর্য্য ও সম্মান প্রকাশ করবে যারা তার প্রতি গভীরভাবে শ্রদ্ধামিশ্রিত মমতা প্রকাশ করবে। অনেকে আছেন যাঁরা অন্তরের অন্তঃস্থল থেকে তা প্রকাশ করতে পারে না, কিন্তু অন্তর দিয়ে তা অনুভব করতে পারে। আর তখনই তার কাছে কাব্য ধরা দেয়।
10. Translate the following into English: 25
Translation: The great liberation war is our identity of experience. Liberation war is not a solely word in our life. It is the name of an endless flame in the heart of Bengali. It is Bengali’s consciousness, their pride and determination as hard as steel. It is the inspiration and the other name of being honed. Liberation war is our past, present and future. We have to go ahead considering the consciousness of liberation war as torchbearer. All achievements of our national life, our dreams and desires, planning should be centered on the spirit of liberation war. Because it is the base of our nationalism, only way of living and going ahead.
Our new generation inundates with the history of liberation war, it inspires them to go ahead, it also gives them the self identity and sense of nationalism. They love to read books related to the liberation war, and it is noticeable to see their utmost interests of knowing liberation war. It is the name of never ending source of inspiration of the patriotism of this generation. It is their nature to pursue the novelty. Who wills to know their entity of nationalism, wants to find their root.
In this way she/he is inspired by his/her national history, tradition, folklore and culture. He/She confronted with 71 and discover how much sacrifice, patience and blood shed we have to pay to achieve our independence. Today’s young generation is growing up with steel hard determination, consciousness and the patriotism of our liberation war. We find the proof of it in Ekushe Boimela, Independence and victory day. We find their presence in Shaheed Minar, Liberation monument from each corner of the country by inscribing national flag on their forehead, chest or with the dress of national flag’s color. It is the expression of their ultimate patriotism. We have the inspiration of 71, it will have, and for forever.
